Introduction:
Patrick Vivier is a pediatrician and health services researcher. He is the Director of the Master of Public Health Program at Brown and is an Associate Professor of Community Health and Pediatrics.

Current Projects:
Dr. Vivier's current research related to S4 is to better understand the impact of where families live on their health and use of health services. As part of the Healthy Communities Initiative more than a decade of lead screening data in Rhode Island has been mapped and analyzed to understand the geographic distribution of lead poisoning. The research includes assessing the impact of old housing and poverty at the block group level on the risk of lead poisoning, as well as an analysis of changes over time. The research also involves assessing the impact of the lead burden in geographic areas on school performance in statewide educational testing. New areas of research for the Healthy Communities Initiative include a birth cohort study of the impact of neighborhood characteristics on health and health services use. Dr. Vivier and his colleagues in the Healthy Communities Initiative also plan to investigate the geographic distribution of other health problems such as asthma and injuries. Going beyond assessing the nature of problems, the Healthy Communities Initiative is also working with community groups to design interventions to address neighborhood health threats and is currently assessing the impact of a large scale lead remediation program.
